AFL-CIO holds event today with experts to analyze the crisis that Dominicans of Haitian descent and
Haitian migrant workers face as the Dominican government threatens mass deportations
As a former refugee and an immigrant I know how important it is to ensure that migrant workers have the ability to fully and freely participate in society. This impending human catastrophe in the Western Hemisphere should be a cause of concern for the international community and all those who believe in racial equality and basic human decency.
As the labor movement and community partners fight the criminalization of immigrants and communities of color inside the U.S., we stand in solidarity with our Dominican and Haitian sisters and brothers who are organizing in the fields and factories under such difficult circumstances. We call on the Dominican government to put an end to growing xenophobic violence in communities, and cease its discriminatory criminalization and deportation policies.
