AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka made the following statement after President Obama signed the budget agreement:
Now that a bipartisan budget agreement has been signed and threats of a government shutdown temporarily eliminated, the critical appropriations process begins. Congress must implement a clean budget that invests in jobs and economic growth. We cannot allow Republican members to hold the economy hostage by attaching ideological riders that roll back protections for working people or jeopardize policies that restrain Wall Street abuses. The Administration and Democrats must staunchly reject finalizing a budget deal with any such riders. Lawmakers must prioritize a raising wages agenda that can bring better lives to working families.
