Statement from AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler on this week's announcement that the Department of Labor will propose a new rule clarifying regulations on authorized employee representation during workplace inspections:
We commend this week’s announcement from the Department of Labor on its proposed rule to clarify workers’ rights to fully participate during the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s inspections. This will level the playing field to ensure that workers have representation of our choosing, just as employers do. It will also ensure workers have the ability to speak freely to inspectors, and will facilitate more thorough and complete inspections to remedy hazards in the workplace. When working people participate in the enforcement process, the workplace becomes safer for everyone.
With this proposed rule, the Biden administration continues to stand up for workers and give us a voice on the job. The labor movement fully supports this effort, and we will do everything in our power to ensure this rule is swiftly finalized.
